Temporarily unrebooted.

So, the first of May has come and gone. So has a deadline that I was dearly hoping to make. If you’ll notice, this site is not sporting any of the previously promised, lovingly redesigned, standards-savvy, tableless, CSS goodness. Well, there’s a reason for that. It’s simply not ready for prime time. I’m not happy with it, and it’s not finished. I don’t want to make this sound like the redesign has been pushed to the back burner … it’s still in progress. Great gobbing leaps of progress are occurring, albeit sporadically. Right now, family and other commitments come first … as it should be. Bits and pieces will emerge slowly. Promise. In the meantime, the RSS feed has been finally switched over to use full descriptions (why I hadn’t implemented that previously is anyone’s guess), and I’m tinkering with using the pop-up Blogger comment thingie.

The links from the RSS feed (for example, this one) are totally unstyled…

Chris, I’d like to build a site using nothing but tables… and it would look best in Netscape 1.1 or MacWeb.

Victor, Blogger doesn’t allow me to specify specific paths to monthly archives, so what the links point to are unstyled HTML chunks with only bare-bones formatting. Since the full posts are now included in the feed, clicking through for more information will be reduced. If my cranky old OS9 web server allowed for long file names, I could point the permalinks directly to the individual posts, rather than the monthly archives. That would also eliminate the need for these lame pop-up comments. Once I move over to the new OSX server, things will straighten up consideably. It’s not a perfect solution, but it’s getting there.

I personally think tables are totally underrated.

Cool. I’m a huge fan of not upgrading anything until absolutely necessary, but boy, is really sounds like your web server needs an upgrade ;) Your OS9 server sounds more and more like Uncle Grandpa from Diesel Sweeties.

And hey, make sure you refer to the spec when you build that table-only site. Man, that pages takes me back in time.
